5/28/2009: Biomedical Engineering will receive a $280,000 award package from the HP Innovations in Education program to use in its high-tech design studio and teaching laboratory. With the funds, the department will use technologies such as wireless HP Tablet PCs and wide-format HP DesignJet printers, as well as remote access to high-power HP Blade Workstations, to assist students in the design and testing of biomedical devices. "This will greatly improve our educational facilities and will allow our students to explore the relationship between theoretical modeling and design," said professor Donald Gaver, department chair. "As such, this will greatly improve our students’ training for work in biomedical engineering industry and government."
4/27/2009: Calling all alumni: To help current students connect with alumni in the workplace, we’ve set up the Tulane Biomedical Engineering group on linkedin.com http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=1923837. So far, more than 150 alumni have joined. All Tulane BMEN alumni are asked to register on LinkedIn and to add this group to the profile they create. Alumni can re-connect with friends from Tulane, and our students will be able to see the diversity of career paths that our graduates follow.
4/22/2009: We honored our students and faculty at the annual awards banquet. A list of current and prior honorees is here.
4/21/2009: Our Suhren Lecture Series continued with Dr. Sasha Popel, Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, presenting "Systems Biology of Angiogenesis: To Grow or Not To Grow."
4/18/2009: The proceedings from our annual Undergraduate Research and Design conference are here.
3/7/2009: The 20th Annual Team Design Show highlighted projects to assist clients in the New Orleans area. Click here to see this year’s projects.
3/5/2009: The 21st year of our Suhren Lecture Series began with Dr. David Kaplan, Professor and Chairman of Biomedical Engineering at Tufts University, talking about "Bioengineered Fibrous Proteins for Regenerative Medicine."
3/3/2009: Benson Massey MD (E'79), the President of the Dysphagia Research Society, spoke with students about engineering principles in the study and treatment of swallowing disorders.
12/18/2008: We'd like to welcome our two newest faculty members, Sergey Shevkoplyas and Tabassum Ahsan! Sergey Shevkoplyas holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University and is an expert in microfluidics; Tabassum Ahsan holds a Ph.D. from the University of California - San Diego, and is an expert in mechanobiology. We're excited to have them both on faculty at Tulane.
